Fresh soft pink roses hanging from undulating vines are hand-woven all over the ground of this soft mauve pashmina shawl. A careful look reveals the precise geometry, which creates the impression of unending repetition.

The famous Kashmir shawls that were at the height of fashion in the late 18th and 19th centuries were woven in a fine twill tapestry technique called Kani. The technique gets its name from the small eyeless bobbin called Kan, used to weave the design into fabric. This exquisite technique survives till today only in the Kashmir valley.
