The famous Kashmir shawls that were at the height of fashion in the late 18th and 19th centuries were woven with a special technique with a small bobbin or eyeless needle onto which is wound the yarn of the different colors needed to make the design of a twill- tapestry fabric. This fine technique is known as Kani.
