The design is inspired by the 17th-century archetypes. The mughal-inspired floral buteh are arranged neatly on both ends of this oversize shawl.
The famous Kashmir shawls that were at the height of fashion in the late 18th and 19th centuries were woven in a fine twill tapestry technique called Kani. The technique gets its name from the small eyeless bobbin called Kan, used to weave the design into fabric. This exquisite technique survives today only in the Kashmir valley.
