Khatrast literally means straight road, hence shawls with stripe designs are called as such. The Gul Rang Kani is a contemporary take on the vintage Khatrast style shawls. Meandering leafy stalks in pink and green are woven into a striking bright purple pashmina base. 

The famous Kashmir shawls that were at the height of fashion in the late 18th and 19th centuries were woven in a fine twill tapestry technique called Kani. The technique gets its name from the small eyeless bobbin called Kan, used to weave the design into fabric. This exquisite technique survives today only in the Kashmir valley.
